A different Stand-Up story...
So let me give you 35 years until now in a few sentences... I have been a comic and public speaker for over 30 years. I currently live outside of the Boston area with my wife and two children.
I started doing standup in the late 80’s as part of a comedy team called Caito and Morin. After six months of open mics, we entered a competition called the Johnny Walker National Comedy Search. (A partnering of Johnny Walker, with Bud Friedman and Evening At The Improv). We came in 3rd out of 106 comedians. That night catapulted us from open mic to headlining within a year. We headlined clubs and colleges throughout New England, eventually making our way to NYC.
Our career was a hyper rise to success story. We had weekly shows in Boston and NYC with Barry Katz (producer of “Last Comic Standing,” who helped launch the careers of Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Whitney Cummings, and Tracy Morgan, to name a few) as an acting manager.
However, on March 15, 1992, I was invited to a small church service where I had my personal “come to Jesus moment!” At that moment, I had an encounter that changed my life forever. A love that I had been looking for my whole life began to supernaturally rush through my entire being from head to toe. Within a few weeks, I knew there was a calling upon my life, and I needed to pursue it. I broke up the team and put the microphone down, never thinking I would use it ever again.
One day I was invited to speak at the Framingham Women’s correctional facility in Massachusetts where I shared my testimony and the redeeming power and love of Jesus Christ with a ton of humor in the mix. Over 200 woman went to their feet time after time. I thought to myself, “Attica”!! This could be a riot in the making, and the dozen or so guards on watch don’t stand a chance.
Shortly afterward, I was asked to speak at churches, schools, college campuses, corporate gigs, and prisons, sharing my personal story of struggles and triumphs. All the while using standup as the vehicle to deliver a message of hope. It has been an amazing journey, and laughter continues to be the medicine that heals. Welcome to the comedy of Tommy Morin “the Manic Hispanic” and Hysterical Faith!!
